That answer is partially correct. PCs historically could only handle 3 character file extensions (though, that is no longer the case), so you will typically see the JPG extension used on PCs. That tends to be the more accepted extension. However, they are technically interchangeable. You can also use JPE. Most modern Operating Systems and browsers will recognize all of those extensions.

My understanding is no difference between the two suffixes. I believe PC saves as JPEG and MAC as JPG. Web clients understand both.
